National Honor Society is hosting a toiletry drive from now until we leave for Spring Break. Teachers with participating 5th period classes will have a donation box that you can place your items in. All donations will go to help the homeless in the area. The 5thperiod class with the most donated items will win a pizza party!

Daytona State College is offering free tutoring for the SAT Math every Saturday from March 30 through April 27, 2019 at 10:00 – 11:30 AM in Building 600, Room 209 on the Daytona Campus. Registration is recommended but not required. Please come to Guidance for more information.

Volunteers are needed for the upcoming Port Orange Spring Family Days event that will take place on March 28th – 31st. For the sign-up link, please see Mrs. Gudzin or Ms. Tai.

Muscular Dystrophy Association is teaming up with Daytona International Speedway during Bike Week. They need help selling raffle tickets March 8-16. Booth hours daily are 9:00AM – 5:00PM. Shifts can be broken up from 9-1 and 1-5. Dress casual and feel free to wear a shirt representing your school. You will receive an MDA shirt – so sign up in Guidance in advance.

Students who are graduating from DSC in Spring or Summer must apply online for graduation. Students must apply for graduation by March 22nd to have their name included in the Commencement Book given out at the ceremony.  The last day to submit graduation application is May 3, 2019. The graduation/commencement Ceremony is May 13, 2019.  

We have several new job opportunities posted in Guidance. The bulletin board is located in the hallway next to the Volunteer Hours board. Job postings range from child care, camp counselors with a scholarship opportunity attached, Daytona Lagoon, and more!  Don’t forget to check out the scholarship bulletin available on our website and in Guidance. Scholarships are updated every month.

Senior speech applications are now available in Guidance. See Mrs. Gutierrez in guidance for the senior speech application form and return it to Mrs. Leffler before Spring Break, March 14. Senior Speech tryouts will be Wednesday, April 3.

The last volunteer hours training before Spring Break is Thursday, March 14th -Lunch A in the auditorium. Do your training ahead of time to be able to count the many volunteer hours you could earn over Spring Break.

The International Speedway Square is planning a Spring Family Fun Day in the center for Saturday, March 16th from 11am-2pm. They will have a bounce house, games, face painting, crafts, refreshments and more! They need 12 - 15 volunteers at this event. We ask that the volunteers arrive at least 30 minutes prior to event start time and stay up to 30 minutes beyond the completion of the event to help set up and tear down.

Students -are you interested in going to Embry Riddle? Would you like to know what it’s like to be a student for a day? Attend “March to College” at Embry Riddle, Sunday, March 31st from 9:30am-3:30pm. You will get a tour, a chance to talk with current students, fly their flight simulator, and more.

Seniors there are two scholarship opportunities that have a quick turnaround deadline. Please see Ms. T. Jackson for more information.  Ford NGL scholarship – graduating seniors with a 3.0 or better GPA, majoring in a STEM field. Volusia County Chapter of FAMU National Alumni Association – Senior with a 3.0 or better GPA and a recommendation letter from a teacher, counselor or community leader.

Will you be sitting around the house for spring break?  What about sitting in the car? Or on a plane? Then don't forget to check out a book to take with you. The media center is open all this week and wants to help you find the perfect book to take home. 

Today (March 13th) STAR Club and TEAL Academy will be hosting the Spread the Word to End the Word Campaign. At lunch we will be on the courtyard stage, and ask students to sign a banner, pledging to not use the R word.    

The Living Shoreline Stabilization event will be held at Tomoka State Park (2099 N. Beach Street, Ormond Beach) on March 24, 2019, 9:00am to 12:00pm. We will be meeting and working at the statue of Chief Tomokie. We are in need of volunteers to deploy oyster shell bags, plant marsh grass, and plant mangroves to stabilize a section of shoreline and protect new plants from shoreline erosion.
